Article Submission Guidelines
Approx length: 600-800 words
Content: Must appeal to seniors. Popular areas are Nostalgia, Humor, and Wisdom. True stories from your life experiences.
Include any photos or artwork (that you have rights to) to illustrate the column.
Email as Microsoft Word .doc or PDF file to Sseditor@suddenlysenior.com
We pay $25 for published columns.
Some Guidelines
Original Content: MUST BE AN ORIGINAL ARTICLE THAT YOU WROTE. If you work for an author as an employee or contractor and are submitting the article, please submit the article as if it was from the original author including his or her email address and name.
No Hype: We don't publish promotional articles. MUST NOT be a press release, advertisement, sales letter, promotional copy, or blatant self-promotion or hype.
No Political or Racist Articles: This is not the place for them. We are looking for humor and entertainment only. PG13 Rated: While we are open to stories that contain some mild sexual humor or stories about dating, relationships and intimacy, particularly as pertains to seniors, nothing of an overtly blatant sexual or pornographic nature will be published. Send those to Penthouse Letters instead!
FAQs
Do you want an email query first? If you are unsure about anything, yes please. We don't want to to waste your time writing something that won't work for us. However if you have some sample columns already, send no more than 3 sample columns, pasted into your email and as three separate attachments.
How and when do you reply? We will typically respond in a few days with "Thanks, we got this" and in a couple of weeks or so we will let you know if we want to publish the column. We may make suggestions for changes at that time.
Can I publish the same column elsewhere? Yes, provided that you state "First published on SuddenlySenior.com" so that it is clear our content is original. However we do not want submissions that have already been published elsewhere.
When will I get paid? We issue checks within 2 weeks after publication.
Formatting. The less the better.
